The Nettur Petti is an artefact of historical significance. It was jewel box used by women in the royal and aristocratic families as well as in temples to store the ornaments of the idol. This petti (box) is named after Nettur, the village in Kerala where the craft is believed to have originated.
This jewel box is fully handcrafted and the casket usually made of rosewood is richly decorated with brass. The jewel box which used to store ornaments and jewels in olden times is used as decorative piece now.
